Music for Missions Presents Mlle. Maria Valdes, a Soprano vocal Performance

Atlanta, GA--  United Methodist Church in Tucker will be showcasing Maria Valdes an exceptional Soprano at this years Music for Mission concert on December 12th at 7pm.  Maria Valdes is a third-year vocal performance major at Georgia State University and will present an outstanding selection of compositions for soprano.  Maria has travelled all over the world with her talents and this concert is being billed as her "homecoming" event.

Maria graduated from Kennesaw Mountain High School, received the Hoover Choral Scholarship at Georgia State University and is a University Scholar. She has sung in master classes with David Daniels, Harry Bickett, William Fred Scott, and Joe Rescigno. As a sophomore, Valdes was given the title role in Dan Shore's one act opera "The Beautiful Bridegroom" which was performed for the National Opera Association Convention and sang the soprano lead role of Micaela in the School of Music's production of Bizet's "Carmen." Last year she took first place in the state National Association of Teachers of Singing vocal competition in her age category. She was also featured in the Atlanta Chamber Player's showcase concert with Paula Peace. This summer she received an I.E.F. Scholarship to attend the Italian Studies in Perugia program in Perugia Italy and was invited to study voice with La Fenice coach Sherman Lowe in Venice for a week.

This year Ms. Valdes sang the National Anthem at the Georgia Dome for the first-ever football game in Georgia State University's history.

Currently she is a staff singer at All Saints Episcopal Church.
