Dekalb's CEO Burrell Ellis' Town Hall Meetings Continue to be a Success

Stone Mountain, GA-- DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Burrell Ellis has been attending a series of in-home neighborhood meetings all month long to discuss and receive feedback on the proposed 2011 executive budget recommendations and related county matters.  The last meeting took place on January 25th at the 5001 Mainstreet Park Drive Clubhouse in Stone Mountain.  It was hosted by community member Rick Harris.

To the room full of residents Mr. Ellis said, “I know that residents have questions to ask and priorities to voice, (and) I want to hear what the people have to say”.

The remaining meetings will be at the following locations:

DeKalb Commissioner Sharon Barnes Sutton is encouraging residents of District 4 to attend the Budget Town Hall meetings on Thursday, January 27, 2011.  The meeting will take place at the Stone Mountain Art Station, located at 5384 Manor Drive, Historic Stone Mountain Village, GA 30083 at 7:00 p.m.   Residents will have a chance to voice their opinion on the 2011 DeKalb County budget.

Dekalb County, GA--  In an attempt to get even further in the public and to find out exactly what the local neighborhoods and residents are concerned about, the Dekalb CEO will be attending in-home neighborhood meetings during the month of January.  The focus of Mr. Ellis' visits is to discuss and receive feedback on the proposed 2011 executive budget recommendation and related county matters. 

“I know that residents have questions to ask and priorities to voice,” said CEO Ellis.  “I want to hear what the people have to say”.

DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James was recently appointed to the Judicial Nominating Commission (JNC) by Governor Nathan Deal. James joins the 20 member board, which is tasked with providing recommendations for vacant state trial and appellate courts.

 

“I am honored to join the JNC and the distinguished group of professionals assembled by Governor Deal,” said James. “My objective is to make sound recommendations to the governor as it relates to judicial appointments. The residents of Georgia deserve the most qualified, experienced, ethical and impartial people to serve in these extremely important roles.

DeKalb Government Furniture Flip Costs Taxpayers Thousands

DEKALB COUNTY, GA -- State representative Stan Watson will become a DeKalb County commissioner in a couple of weeks. He'll replace Connie Stokes. When Stokes leaves, county officials say she'll take her county office furniture with her. And Watson will get new, nearly-identical taxpayer-funded furniture.

The money is the eye-opener.  Stokes is paying DeKalb county $1,300 for her four-year old furniture.

The county is spending $12,000 to replace it for Watson.

Morris Williams, the Board chief of staff, says the incoming and outgoing furniture are virtually identical, "except one is four years older than the other.

On Dec. 6, 2010, the DeKalb County School System Board of Education presented its timeline for the 2020 Vision: 2011-2012 Redistricting and Consolidation Plan.

DeKalb County Public Works/Infrastructure group will Hold a Public meeting

Atlanta, GA--  (Submitted by the Tucker Civic Assoc)  Representatives from the DeKalb County Public Works/Infrastructure group will hold a public meeting to discuss upcoming infrastructure capital improvement projects (CIPs).  

County staff is currently assessing the water, sewer and infrastructure needs, and watershed experts have identified critical capital improvement projects that are needed over the next five years to ensure our water supply is adequate and safe for drinking, fire protection, our anticipated growth and development, and that the county is in full compliance with all state and federal regulations.

The meeting will provide an explanation of the repairs and upgrades needed in the water and sewer division, in order to preserve accessibility and maintain quality.
