ATLANTA -- Monday is the birthday of Monkey Joe, namesake of the popular indoor bounce house venues.

To celebrate, Monkey Joe's is offering plenty of family fun, including reduced admission prices, all day.

On Feb. 18, entry into every Monkey Joe's location is only $5. The first 100 children at each facility will be treated to a free pizza party, and the first 75 children will be given birthday party goodie bags.

"Monkey Joe's birthday party provides us an opportunity to thank our loyal customers for their continued support of Monkey Joe's locations across the country," Monkey Joe's brand manager Sonny Crumpton said in a statement. "As a way to honor the families that visit Monkey Joe's time and again, we wanted to show our appreciation with discounted admission and special treats and events, which we believe both children and their parents will enjoy."

Regular joint meeting of DeKalb’s Greenspace and Parks committees meet Feb. 13

ATLANTA -- The joint regular meeting of the DeKalb Parks Bond Advisory Committee and the Initiative for a Green DeKalb Advisory Council will be Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 5:30 p.m. at the ONE DeKalb Resource Center located on the lower level of Northlake Mall near the Macy’s entrance, 4800 Briarcliff Road, Atlanta, GA 30345.

There will be an update on greenspace acquisitions and current parks and recreation projects.

The DeKalb Parks Bond Advisory Committee provides advice regarding the use of the proceeds of the 2001 Parks Bonds and reviews the bond proceeds expenditures in an advisory capacity. The Initiative for a Green DeKalb Advisory Council advises, advocates, and establishes a vision for an integrated greenspace system in DeKalb County.

Chick-fil-A Daddy-Daughter Date Night returns in 2013

ATLANTA -- Chick-fil-A's wildly popular Daddy-Daughter Date Night will return in February.

More than 100 Atlanta- and Athens-area Chick-fil-A restaurants will host the event on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Every couple in attendance will receive an activity sheet with conversation topics and a booklet called "Continuing the Conversation," which gives the dads and daughters suggestions for getting to know each other better.

"One of Chick-fil-A's goals is to promote community connections and enrich the lives of everyone we serve," Chick-fil-A area marketing director Robin Lomax said in a statement. "We understand the importance of father-daughter relationships and want to encourage dads to take a break from busy schedules, enjoy their daughters' company over a meal and have fun."

That is the question that for years plagued Sherrell Anderson; a part of the driving force behind her creation of the nonprofit, Teens: What's the Rush, Inc. (TWTR).

But on Jan. 12, 2011, Anderson says that she was given the assignment from God, and from there on delved into laying the framework for TWTR. She set aside her own troubling memories of childhood sexual abuse, to begin serving hundreds of teens across the state.

AKA holding peace rally for middle school students

ATLANTA -- Members of metro Atlanta's chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will hold a peace rally and workshop for middle school students over the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday weekend.

The event will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Ivy Community Center in southwest Atlanta. It is part of the 40 Days of Peace project, which aims to spread service and kindness through the country.

The peace rally and workshop will aim to teach young people about Dr. King's mission, and to raise awareness of crime and crime prevention strategies. Law enforcement members will also give an interactive presentation to encourage children to stamp out gangs and bullying.

Middle school students from several metro Atlanta counties -- Cobb, Cherokee, Clayton, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Henry, Paulding and Rockdale -- are expected to participate.

Tucker HS basketball court dedicated to former coach

TUCKER, Ga. -- Tucker High School will dedicate its basketball court to legendary former coach A.Z. Johnson.

A dedication ceremony will be held at the school at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8.

Coach Johnson graduated from Tucker High in 1937 and went on to receive a bachelor's degree in social studies from Oglethorpe University in Brookhaven, where he was the leading scorer on the basketball team. He has since been inducted into the university's Sports Hall of Fame.

During his 32 years coaching in DeKalb County -- 21 years at Tucker High and 11 years at Chamblee High -- Johnson became one of the winningest high school basketball coaches in Georgia, with an overall record of 501 wins and 274 losses.

The Atlanta Tipoff Club awarded Johnson a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997, and the Georgia State Legislature passed a resolution honoring his life and career in 2000.

ATLANTA -- Fulton County comprises 10 percent of Georgia’s population and accounts for 54 percent of the state’s AIDS cases.

In recognition of World AIDS Day on December 1, 2012, starting November 27, both health agencies will sponsor events to encourage residents to take control and get tested in a world-wide effort to reach “ZERO New Infections, ZERO Discrimination and ZERO AIDS Related Deaths.  The County has partnered with DeKalb County to provide similar services in order to have the greatest impact on reducing new HIV infections.
