Atlanta, GA--  The Tree of Love is a holiday celebration to assist children  living in DeKalb who because of their circumstances --- foster care, single-parent low income household, etc.,  may not have a Merry Christmas.  This is the 11th year that Commissioner Larry Johnson, DeKalb District 3, has sponsored this initiative.   Commissioner Johnson is quoted as saying: “This is what Christmas is all about, helping and giving to others.

DeKalb County Public Safety Officials and Business Community Partner to Combat Crime

Atlanta, GA--  (submitted by ehburton@dekalbcountyga.gov) Various DeKalb County public safety officials, county officials and local business leaders have partnered to create a "Crime & Coffee" workshop on December 2, at 8:30 a.m. at the Northlake Doubletree Hotel located at 4156 Lavista Road. The free hour-long workshop includes presentations from various public safety officials, a Q&A session and a complimentary continental breakfast.

Students Without Mothers Host a Special Night of Jazz with a 'Color Purple' Theme at Sambuca Cafe

Atlanta, GA--  On Monday, November 22, a special night of jazz entertainment with a Color Purple theme will take place at Sambuca Jazz Cafe in support of the Students Without Mothers. The event will hosted by singer/actor, Maria Howell who appeared in The Color Purple.

Howell  and her friend, Margaret "Shug" Avery, will sing songs from the movie, including "God Is Tryin' to Tell You Something" and "Ms. Celie's Blues."

Visit the Green Products EXPO, in conjunction with One DeKalb Neighborhood Summit, on 11/17

Atlanta, GA--  The Green Commission of DeKalb County and Commissioner Kathie Gannon invite all citizens to join them at a Green Products EXPO, in conjunction with One DeKalb Neighborhood Summit, on Saturday, Nov 13, 2010, 9am – 12:00pm, at Georgia Perimeter College – Clarkston campus.

The Green Expo is an opportunity for DeKalb County residents to learn the latest information about environmentally friendly products and services.  Twenty seven local companies and non-profit organizations that help consumers save energy, conserve natural resources and use recycled materials will demonstrate their products and services. There will also be a document shredder on site for the public.

MOSAIC Group [Architects and Remodelers] Sponsors Food Drive

The statistics are alarming! Over 20 percent of Georgia's children and over 11 percent of senior adults live in poverty. More than 30 percent of the people who receive food from the Atlanta Community Food Bank must choose between buying medicine or food. MOSAIC Group [Architects and Remodelers] wants to put a dent in those disturbing numbers. The company will sponsor a Food Drive during November to benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

MOSAIC Group [Architects and Remodelers] will accept non-perishable food donations Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at the company's Atlanta office, located at 2358 Perimeter Park Drive, Suite 300. The Food Drive will run Nov. 1-30.

"The Atlanta Community Food Bank does a tremendous job helping to reduce hunger, food insecurity and poverty in our city," said William Fadul, co-owner of MOSAIC Group [Architects and Remodelers].

100 Black Women’s DeKalb Chapter Honor 12 Breast Cancer Survivors for Annual Pink & Black Affair

Atlanta, GA--  The Decatur-DeKalb Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women (NCBW) will celebrate the strength and triumphs of thirteen great women during the Sixth Annual Pink & Black Affair at the Holiday Inn Select in downtown Decatur on Saturday, November 6th at 7:00 pm. The Chapter’s purpose is to honor local breast cancer survivors and raise funds for the organization’s Legacy Programs and for local breast cancer research. 

Special Invitation to a Big Band Dance in Tucker

Atlanta, GA--  Looking for nostalgia and a fun night out?  The United Methodist Women are presenting a fun filled opportunity to raise funds for Dekalb charities and missions.

For a Donation of $15 per person you will have 3 hours of Big Band music, dancing or listening, and enjoy the fellowhip of like minded fun people.

The Sentimental Journey Orchestra will provide the music.
