On Saturday, April 30, 2011, the new mascot for Stars and Strikes Family Entertainment Centers made its’ debut to the community at the Dacula Stars and Strikes Family Fun Day in Gwinnett County.

When – Thursday, May 19, 2011 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Moving Screening from 5:15 to 6:45; Panel discussion from 7 - 8

Why - Local education plays a vital role in economic development, both in business recruitment, retention, and expansion. There is a direct correlation to superior scholastic achievement in communities where business is involved in education. One might argue that there is no greater economic development interest than that of education.

The screening is part of a national effort by the U.S.

ATLANTA -- If the recent warm weather has you spending more time outdoors, don't forget to wear sunscreen.

Sun exposure remains the leading cause of skin cancer, which can often be cured if detected and treated early.

Kaiser Permanente is offering free skin cancer screenings at two locations on Wednesday, May 18:

Crescent Medical Center
(200 Crescent Center Parkway, Tucker, 30084)

Cumberland Medical Center
(2525 Cumberland Parkway, Atlanta, 30339)

The screenings will take place from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Patients will be seen on a first come, first served basis.

DECATUR, Ga. -- As Georgia First Lady Sandra Deal continues her "Read Across Georgia" tour, she will make a stop in Decatur to launch a contest that will help one lucky parent pay for his or her child's college education.

Together with the Georgia Public Library Service and Georgia's Path2College 529 Plan, Mrs. Deal will introduce the Destination College Savings Sweepstakes at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 12 at the Toco Hill-Avis G.

DECATUR, Ga. – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

The fourth annual Art-B-Que will be held, this weekend, in the Avondale Estates. This two day festival features food, music, art and fun. This year, acts include: Noot d’Noot, Nine Inch Neils, AM Gold, Mule and Skinner MacQueen. The festival is free of charge. The festival will be held at Railroad Art District, which is located at 2846 Franklin Street in Atlanta.

Fernbank Museum is holding a variety of special archaeology programming throughout May in celebration of Georgia Archaeology Month. On Saturday, May 7, the museum will hold “a family dig for archaeology-themed activities that focus on Native American crafts and technologies”. The dig is included in museum admission and is free to museum members. The dig will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
