Dekalb Woman goes to Prison for Elder Abuse

Monique Windley, age 28, of DeKalb County will serve three years in prison after being found guilty of elder exploitation, theft by taking and identity fraud committed against two patients under her care. She will be on probation for 12 years after serving the three years.

One of the victims suffered from dementia and the other was sick with cancer. Windley, a certified nurse assistant, had worked in a private DeKalb County assisted living facility. Windley stole more than $10,000 from the cancer victim and she even paid her utility bills out of the victim’s checking account.  As a condition of her sentence she is prohibited from working in any elder care facility and has to pay $11,350 in restitution.

Jeanne Canavan, DeKalb County deputy chief assistant district attorney, was the prosecutor. Canavan heads the white collar crime/elder exploitation unit.

Acting DeKalb County DA Sworn In, Today

Decatur, GA –Javoyne Hicks White has been sworn in as the acting DeKalb County, Georgia district attorney. She assumed the job on Sept. 3, 2010.  

“I look forward to serving as acting district attorney,” said Hicks White. “DeKalb County citizens can rest assured that our office’s talented and committed lawyers and support personnel will continue to provide them with the same level of service they have received during the past five and one-half years.”

Hicks White was one of two existing chief assistant district attorneys who reported to District Attorney Gwen Keyes Fleming. She recently accepted a position as a regional district administrator for the federal Environmental Protection Agency.

Atlanta, GA-- Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Brian D. Lamkin, FBI Atlanta, in conjunction with the Atlanta Police Department, announces the arrest of the following individual, responsible for September 9, 2010 robbery of the Chase Bank, located at 3330 Piedmont Road, Atlanta, Georgia.

Abdul Khaliq Amin, age 52, was arrested after an FBI SWAT entry was made at a Decatur, Georgia residence earlier this morning.  A crucial tip from a viewer of a local area television station broadcasting photographs of the robber prior to donning his robbery mask was considered instrumental in today’s arrest.
