Crime Stoppers offers a Reward in fatal Armored Car Robbery

TUCKER, Ga.--  (sent by Dekalb County Govt.) The DeKalb County Police Department in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigations is partnering with Crime Stoppers Atlanta to offer a reward in the armed robbery and fatal shooting of a Garda Armored Car courier.  On Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at approximately 12:03 p.m., a gunman open fire on a Garda Armored Car courier while walking back to his truck, having serviced the Kroger Grocery Store, located at 2205 La Vista Road.

Tucker, GA--  (submitted by Mekka Parrish, Dekalb PIO)  The DeKalb County Police Department’s Special Victims Unit is partnering with Crime Stoppers Atlanta in search of new tips in the St. Timothy Assault Investigation. 

On February 26, 2011 around 3:30 p.m. a female worker from St. Timothy Church was sexually and physically assaulted by an unknown man.  According to detectives, the 53 year old victim was working inside a church office when she answered an exterior office door.  Once the door opened, the assailant forced his way in and assaulted the victim.  Detectives believe following the assault the suspect robbed the victim of some belongings, including a cell phone.  The cell phone was later sold to an individual not connected to the assault near Underground Atlanta.

Four Teens Shot During "Sweet 16" Party

Snellville, GA -- Gwinnett County Police are looking for the gunman who fired a rifle into a sweet 16 birthday party on Loch Ness Lane near Snellville on Saturday night.

Four teens were shot and another was grazed by shrapnel, but they're all expected to be okay. Only one victim remained at Gwinnett Medical Center by mid-day Sunday. The victims range in age from 15 to 17.

As many as 60 people were at the home when police arrived at about 11 p.m. Police found more than two dozen shells and shell casings scattered in the street.

"The house was shot up, and people were shot," said witness Terrance Flowers. "It's been a crazy night."

TUCKER – Gwinnet SVU needs your help in locating anyone with information on two suspects they say entered a home in Tucker and sexually assaulted a 29 year old female. The suspects are described as:

  1. Black male, about 6’2 and 200 lbs. with a large muscular build. The suspect has a large mole on the edge of his upper left eyelid and was dressed in all black.
  2. Black male, about 5’ tall with a thin build. The suspect was dressed in all black and wearing a fur jacket.

During a preliminary investigation the suspects entered the victim’s bedroom window while she slept. She awoke as suspect #1 entered her apartment and was sexually assaulted by him as suspect #2 remained outside as a lookout. Suspect #1 then left the resident with suspect #2 taking with him the victims keys and laptop computer.

Accused Murderer of Seven Year Old Boy, to be Arraigned Today

On Wednesday morning, at the DeKalb County courthouse, a man accused of murdering a 7-year-old boy as he slept in his bed [and attempting to murder his sister] will be arraigned. Willie Kelsey, who was formally charged last month , denied his involement in the crime and pled innocent to all charges.

Police say Willie Kelsey shot the boy and his 15-year-old sister execution-style during a home invasion back in September. The girl survived. During his December court date, Kelsey got to hear the full extent of the charges against him. Wearing a bulletproof vest, and shackled at the hands and feet, Kelsey was flanked by six police officers as he was led into county magistrate court.

He was charged with breaking into a home to shoot two children, killing Timothy Johnson Jr., and wounding the boy's sister Alexus Shepherd. Kelsey maintains his innocence.

DeKalb Officer Arrested on Child Molestation Charges

TUCKER, GA -- A DeKalb County police officer has been charged in connection with alleged sexual misconduct with a 15-year-old girl.

Quevius O. Thornton, 29, was arrested on Tuesday after police said an investigation showed he was involved with the teenager.

Thornton was charged with two counts of Statutory Rape, one count of Aggravated Child Molestation and one count of Child Molestation. He is being held at the DeKalb County Jail.

"Once these allegations were brought to light, swift action was taken," DeKalb Police Chief William O'Brien said in a statement. "This type of officer misconduct is inexcusable. It's inherent in order to maintain the public's trust that our officers serve with great character and honor."

Officials said Thornton has been placed on leave pending his termination. He joined the department in 2008.

Atlanta, GA--  Officer Quevius Thornton was arrested by DKPD detectives on January 4th after a criminal probe was launched connected to allegations of sexual misconduct.

The sexual misconduct involved a 15 year old female.

Thornton is charged with (2) counts of Statutory Rape, (1) count of Aggravated Child Molestation and (1) count of Child Molestation.  He is currently being held in the DeKalb County Jail. 

“Once these allegations were brought to light swift action was taken.  This type of officer misconduct is inexcusable.  It’s inherent in order to maintain the public’s trust that our officers serve with great character and honor, says Chief William O’Brien.”

Officer Thornton has been placed on administrative leave pending termination.
