Lawrenceville Match-Up Tops Game of the Week Voting
News

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- There are plenty of great games this weekend, but one contest was a runaway winner for Atlanta.HighSchoolSports.net's Game of the Week. Fans chose Archer at Mountain View with 57.8 percent of the vote.

Archer and Mountain View face off in a battle of new programs. Both schools are playing their first full varsity season. Mountain View went 4-0 against varsity competition last season and Archer finished 1-2.

Both teams are currently at 0-1. Archer lost to Duluth 21-17 and Mountain View lost to Central Gwinnett 24-17.

The second-place vote getter for the Game of the Week was Tucker at Marist with 21.8 percent of the vote. Both teams are 1-0 and coming off of big wins in Week One. Marist beat Douglass-Atlanta 48-12 and Tucker topped Southwest DeKalb 50-19.

The two teams met last year in a much-anticipated battle of unbeatens. Tucker was the top-ranked team and was looking to beat Marist, as they had done in the 2008 state finals, but Marist stepped up and won the game.

Tucker also lost to Southwest DeKalb last year, though, and the Tigers avenged that loss in impressive fashion last week. Could Marist be next? Or will the War Eagles get bragging rights for yet another year?

The third vote getter for Game of the Week was 5A Lassiter at 4A Sprayberry. The Yellow Jackets lost to Hillgrove 23-14 last week and Lassiter lost to North Gwinnett 34-14 in the Corky Kell Classic. Tucker and Marist barely edged out this non-region game for second place by 1.8 percent.

Loganville at Rockdale County was the fourth match-up nominated for Game of the Week. The Region 8-4A game will be Loganville's season opener, while Rockdale County is coming off of a 6-3 win over Winder-Barrow.

Rockdale County beat Loganville 31-28 in 2009.
