DeKalb Officer Arrested on Child Molestation Charges

TUCKER, GA -- A DeKalb County police officer has been charged in connection with alleged sexual misconduct with a 15-year-old girl.

Quevius O. Thornton, 29, was arrested on Tuesday after police said an investigation showed he was involved with the teenager.

Thornton was charged with two counts of Statutory Rape, one count of Aggravated Child Molestation and one count of Child Molestation. He is being held at the DeKalb County Jail.

"Once these allegations were brought to light, swift action was taken," DeKalb Police Chief William O'Brien said in a statement. "This type of officer misconduct is inexcusable. It's inherent in order to maintain the public's trust that our officers serve with great character and honor."

Officials said Thornton has been placed on leave pending his termination. He joined the department in 2008.
